Why are there seasons? Ask students this question and you are likely to get all kinds of answers only a few of which show understanding of the concepts involved. The misconceptions held by students on this basic concept are sometimes minor and sometimes quite comical. This session focuses on sharing ideas for teaching students why we have winter. We will develop some classroom activities suitable for students. Use your eyes, binoculars, or telescope to look at objects in the night sky. Concentrate on identifying winter constellations and planets with the naked eye and also view some deep sky objects such as nebula and galaxies with telescopes. Use any astronomy stuff you think might be helpful including star finders, books, or Internet web sites. We have included several useful web links to the right. [ Astonomy Picture of the Day ]
[ Windows to the Universe ]
[ Sky and Telescope Sights ]
[ The Universe at Your Fingertips ]
