Nearly $1 million of federal stimulus money has found its way to Michigan Tech for a scholarship program that focuses on increasing the number and quality of teachers of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the state.

Michigan Tech is realigning programs and support services for a broad range of students to create an outreach and multicultural affairs center. Teacher training and conference services will become part of the Department of Cognitive and Learning Sciences.

New Funding
The Vice President for Research has announced this year's recipients of the Research Excellence Fund Awards, which total $407,872 among 22 people. Shari Stockero (Cognitive and Learning Sciences and Mathematical Sciences), received a Research Seed Award for "Pivotal Moments in Beginning Mathematics Teachers' Practice," $12,674.
