Master's International Program

What Skills Will I Gain by Completing this Program?

On completing the program, MI graduates in Applied Science and Education should be proficient at:

Stilt Dancer
  • communicating effectively, in both written and oral forms

  • working in diverse teams

  • addressing complex problems and utilizing diverse perspectives

  • motivating students in both the short and long term

  • working with students of diverse cultural and behavioral backgrounds

  • adapting to challenging and rapidly changing circumstances

There is a nationwide need for experienced and qualified science teachers. Education experts and government leaders have expressed great concerns over the shortage of science teachers and the related shortage of high school students who go on to major in science and engineering fields in college. Returning volunteers will be especially qualified for secondary school teaching positions because of their practical experience, their ability to demonstrate the relevance of science to the lives of students in international settings, and their ability to integrate science with other disciplines. Michigan Tech has a high success rate in placing its current students, both because of the intensity of their undergraduate and graduate training, and because of the demand for science teachers. We expect Master's International graduates to have similar employment opportunities.
