William Kennedy, director of the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Faculty Development, presented a session, "Encouraging Engagement Through Planned Dialogue," Thursday, Sept. 24, at the Lilly North Conference on College and University Teaching in Traverse City. Shari Stockero (Cognitive and Learning Sciences and Mathematical Sciences), received a Research Seed Award for "Pivotal Moments in Beginning Mathematics Teachers' Practice," $12,674. NSF Awards $4 Million to Michigan Tech to Build Earth Science Teaching Model in Grand Rapids (Baltensperger, Hungwe) Susan Amato-Henderson (Cognitive and Learning Sciences) received a Faculty Scholarship Grant for "STEM Discipline Education" in the amount of $1,500. MITEP: Bringing Knowledge to Middle Schools in Michigan (Baltensperger, Hungwe) William Rose (GMES), Bradley Baltensperger (Cognitive and Learning Sciences), Jacqueline Huntoon (Graduate School), Chris Anderson (Office for Institutional Diversity), Kedmon Hungwe (Cognitive and Learning Sciences) and Christopher Wojick (CEE), "Michigan Teacher Excellence Program (MITEP): A Model for Improving Earth Science Education Nationwide," NSF was awarded $1,337,520.00. The project begins January 1, 2009.
William Kennedy (Center for Teaching, Learning, and Faculty Development) presented a paper on Aug. 10 at the MERLOT 2008 Conference (Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching) entitled "The Constructive Alignment of Educational Technology and Cognitive Neuroscience." Yu Cai (School of Technology/SFI), Qiong Zhang (Sustainable Futures Institute), Kedmon Hungwe (Cognitive and Learning Sciences), Scott Amos (School of Technology) and Jindong Tan (ECE) have received $144,554 from the National Science Foundation for a two-year project, "CPATH CDP: Integrating Sustainability into Undergraduate Computing Education." The project begins July 1, 2008.
