Dr. Erickson came to our second meeting of the term. It was an open forum with discussion of where the Department of Education is headed with the change to semesters in the Fall of 2000.
Problems:
Not enough classroom time before student teaching.
Scheduling conflicts
Cost of student teaching (possible fund-raising, computer fees)
Trouble of placing students locally
Possible changes for Semesters:
Need for more realistic, practical experiences without extending stay as student teacher
Take a block of 3 classes together on Tuesdays & Thursdays
Integrate the Methods class (ED463) with student teaching (ED491)
Talk about having two student teachers placed in the same classroom
Incorporation of how to do Portfolios in the first education class
Add forms/applications to the web site
Try Distance learning for observation
Signs of Growth:
Just gained certification for a Social Sciences degree
Expected English certification around the 1st of December
Looking at Technology & Design certification program
