Graduated from MTU in 1952 with a BS in Civil Engineering

Played hockey

Enjoys having students come to his house to work on resumes and interviewing.

Resumes:

What is a resume?

Summing up for a new beginning.

"You never get a second chance for a first opinion."

Never have more than one piece of paper.

One side only

Briefly put down everything important but don’t let "big guns" go yet.

Keep in mind that there is no opportunity to express personality in a resume.

FOUR PARTS:

Who am I and what do I want?

Name, address, and objective (be modest i.e. entry level))

Education & Training

Schooling

Experience

Special Activities

Interview vs. Resume

Interview: One-on-one and you can get your personality, how you look, etc. across.

Resume: Presentation is limited, questions can’t be asked or answered.

General Tips and Comments

Good communication in a resume is good grammar (spelling)

Good resumes will convey if you are a leader or not. (Taking risks is a sign of a good leader)

Blend Resume to include good leadership and communication qualities

Listen more than you talk

Make computer experience separate from activites

References – DO NOT list them.

Have names and addresses available with you on interview

Interviewer CAN NOT ask:

Are you married?

Do you have children?

What religion are you

What is your age?

When is your birthday?

DO NOT bring up money!!
